As a patient representative on the Thrombosis UK board of trustees I have witnessed first-hand the passion, expertise, and vision of the Thrombosis UK team. They are committed to education, research, first class management, and prevention of VTE (Venous Thromboembolism). I will be running with our two daughters Melanie and Ashley at the Gateshead 10K on Saturday 11th August. I am delighted to support the drive to prevent VTE affecting others.
So, a few days into the challenge and I’ve signed me and Hannah up to do a virtual walk (along with Jo, Josh and Annya) from Lands End to John O’Groats.

Like many people, I have a desk based job. Thankfully I enjoy what I do, but that actually might be to my detriment.
On the 3rd May 2018 I woke to find that may beloved wife and partner of 27 years, Alexandra had passed away from what was later found to be a massive pulmonary embolism caused by a deep vein thrombosis, the silent killer.
November of 2016, embarks us – Emma and Pamela – upon a 500 kilometre, 10 day cycle from the Pacific to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, in hopes of raising enough money in aid of Thrombosis UK.
Keen cyclist and TUK trustee, Simon Hart, took part in the Dulux London Revolution cycling challenge in May, riding 185 miles through and around London over 2 days, followed in July by the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 mile sportive.
On June 18th 2016 I will ride over 500 miles nonstop from Inverness, across to the West coast of Scotland and navigate the whole of the North coast, before returning to Inverness.
In 2011 Abi developed multiple clots in her lungs and was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where they managed to resuscitate her. No cause was found for her developing thrombosis at that time, but she was put on life-long anticoagulation. In February 2015, just a few days after her 22nd birthday Abi collapsed in the middle of a dinner party: sadly, despite medic’s valiant attempts to revive her, she did not survive.
