Molly courageously embarked on a fundraising journey in loving memory of her dear Auntie, Kim, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away two years ago due to a pulmonary embolism (PE).
Honouring their shared love of “The Lord of the Rings”, Molly participated in her first, ‘Conqueror Virtual Challenge’, aiming to walk the entirety of the Shire — a path rich with memories that she and auntie Kim cherished during their times spent discussing and watching the films together.
With her loyal partner, her dog Bertie (Bertie was previously auntie Kim’s) by her side, Molly walked, ran, and even rowed (at the gym), covering an impressive distance of 145 miles (233 kilometres)!
She meticulously documented her journey, pouring her heart into each step, and triumphantly completed the challenge on October 13th — World Thrombosis Day — a date that emphasised the significance of her mission.
Molly found immense joy in her fundraising efforts, using them as a way to celebrate Auntie Kim’s life while raising awareness about a vital cause. Below, she shares her heartfelt reflections on this meaningful experience:
“It has been my pleasure to fundraise for Thrombosis UK. I hope the funds raised will help in your efforts of raising awareness and seeing the symptoms of blood clots more widely recognised before it’s too late, to prevent people going through what we are experiencing with the loss of my auntie, who deserved so much more from life than for it to be cut short by a blood clot.
“The experience of completing my challenge for my auntie and raising funds for you has been a big help in finding some closure, as I feel I have found something good out of the saddest thing that’s happened and marked how special a person she was. I would love the opportunity to fundraise for you again in the future.
Wishing you all the best and thank you for all that you do”
