Having had a diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) In December 2021, Robbie undertook the Oxford half marathon in 2023, in support of Thrombosis UK.
In December 2021, Robbie developed multiple blood clots in his right lung, a condition known as a pulmonary embolism (PE).
Initially, he hesitated to seek treatment, unaware that his symptoms could be serious and because he had presumed being young and healthy would not make him at risk of serious conditions such as thrombosis.
Thankfully after diagnosis and urgent hfter hospital care, he recovered and fortunately avoided major complications.
After recovering, Robbie was determined to raise awareness and support Thrombosis UK, so in October 2024, Robbie undertook the Oxford Half Marathon! Amazingly he finished in the top 100 out of a total of 13,000 runners and raised close to £250 for Thrombosis UK!.
Just before the event Robbie suffered an injury, and was concerned in case it might prevent him from completing the race. However, Robbie recovered and was able to take part in the Oxford Half, wearing a Thrombosis UK t-shirt to help to raise awareness!
Robbie’s experience really emphasises the importance of being aware that anyone can be at risk of a blood clot and of knowing the signs and symptoms of blood clots. However with prompt diagnosis and treatment, you can make a good recovery and succeed in new challenges!
Please share – anyone, regardless of age, gender or ethnicity can be at risk of developing a blood clot.
