Annually, Thrombosis UK offers Research Grants and Travel Fellowship grants for healthcare professionals and scientists whose study will help improve the experience and outcomes of VTE patents or extend the understanding of thrombosis.

Amount: Up to $20,000 (CAD)

Eligible expenses:

  • Research Ethics / Institutional Review Board Fees
  • Study Insurance
  • Salary for personnel to prepare regulatory applications, introduce the study to local staff, liaise with local departments and prepare local study documents
  • Central meeting costs
  • Ineligible expenses
  • Salary support for investigators and travel-related costs.

Eligibility
Principal investigators of INVENT Endorsed Studies are eligible to apply. (Not Endorsed? Don't worry! See below). Both the principal investigator and a collaborating (lead) investigator at another INVENT Network Member country must be named on the application.
During each award cycle, a principal investigator may only submit one application for a Kickstarter Award. Those who have submitted previous applications, both successful and unsuccessful, are eligible to apply to subsequent award calls.

Have a clinical VTE study not yet endorsed by INVENT?
You are eligible to apply, however an Application for Study Endorsement must be completed concurrently and sent along with the Kickstarter Award Application Form. The Kickstarter Award application will only be considered if the study is approved for Study Endorsement.

Award funds
Award funding will be sent directly to the collaborating (lead) investigator at the new participating international site, to be applied towards their start-up costs.

Award selection

Applications will be reviewed by peer reviewers with no direct conflicts of interest.

Funding amount
Maximum of £1,000 for overseas projects and £500 for UK projects.

  • Applicants will be expected to submit a summary of the intended work and benefit expected to result
  • Individuals may apply for a maximum of two bursaries within any two-year period
  • By the end of the agreed timeframe, an abstract, paper or poster must be shared with Thrombosis UK for publishing on the Thrombosis UK website
