February - First Trustee meeting for 2019. Andrea Croft’s success at the Anticoagulation Achievement Awards (AAA).

Thrombosis UK was delighted to share news at the first Trustee meeting for 2019, of Andrea Croft’s success at the recent Anticoagulation Achievement Awards (AAA).

Andrea is a Trustee for Thrombosis UK and Lead Advanced Practitioner at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, Wales.

At the awards, Andrea was awarded the highly acclaimed ‘Judges Award’ for her work in advancing VTE care.

The Judges Award is an annual award made by the Judging Committee to an individual or team who have demonstrated exceptional drive and leadership in establishing an exemplar anticoagulation service. In making the award, the Judges reviewed data measures along with personal endorsements on the measured and real differences the award winner has made to patient safety, experience and outcomes through their service provision.

The Judges also reviewed evidence of innovation and shared learning undertaken by the award winner to extend understanding and knowledge across multiple healthcare professional teams both locally and nationally. Consideration was also been given to evidence of personalised care that each patient has received as a result of this exceptional healthcare professional, and undertaking to ensure all patients, whether at risk of venous thromboembolism or having been diagnosed with a thrombotic event, are provided with sufficient information tailored to their needs, and opportunity to discuss and raise questions to support their well-being alongside physical recovery.

The Judges were impressed with the dedication and commitment leading to the continuous improvement of VTE prevention in a hospital setting without the benefit of incentives being available to embed ongoing good practice.

The achievements made across the hospital and Health Board were as a direct result of the drive, determination, dedication and leadership of Andrea, a highly skilled clinician with over 24 years anticoagulation experience who identified an innovative process to benefit the patients and reduce the burden of potential VTE outcomes on NHS and service users.

Patients can be confident that their safety and care is best served by this VTE Exemplar centre and the leadership demonstrated to maintain standards.
